Our commitment to in-depth analysis, extensive global coverage, and cutting-edge data management sets us apart in the competitive basketball landscape.

Position Overview

This role involves direct client engagement, in-depth prospect evaluation, comprehensive database management, and strategic budget oversight. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for basketball, strong communication skills, a keen eye for talent, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This role requires travel to observe and evaluate talent across various age groups, from early high school through the collegiate ranks.

Client Engagement & Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for scouting service clients, including college coaches (NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, JUCO), NBA personnel, and agency representatives.
  • Provide exceptional customer support, promptly addressing inquiries, fulfilling specific information requests, and offering tailored insights based on client needs.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring satisfaction and fostering long-term partnerships.
  • Proactively communicate updates and relevant market intelligence to subscribers.
  • Gather client feedback to continuously improve service offerings and deliverables.

Scouting & Talent Evaluation

  • Provide comprehensive scouting coverage of high school and grassroots basketball games, tournaments, camps, and showcases nationwide.
  • Author detailed, objective, and insightful scouting reports on prospects, with information ranging from on-court ability to family background.
  • Gather and verify intel on prospects, including background information, academic progress, and recruitment updates.
  • Analyze game film to supplement live evaluations and produce detailed breakdowns.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of player rankings across various classes.
  • Stay current with NCAA recruiting rules and compliance guidelines.

Database Management

  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive internal database of over 20,000 basketball prospect profiles.
  • Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness for all player entries, including contact information, academic details, stats, evaluation notes, and video links.
  • Oversee the input of new player profiles and regularly update existing ones with new scouting reports, intel, and event results.
  • Work with technology partners or internal teams to optimize database functionality and user experience for clients.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage an annual budget for scouting operations, including travel (flights, accommodations, ground transportation) and consultant/contributor payments.
  • Track expenses, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Optimize travel schedules and resource allocation for maximum efficiency and coverage.

Team Collaboration & Content Contribution (if Applicable)

  • Collaborate with other scouts, analysts, and content creators within the organization.
  • Potentially contribute to written or video content for the company's public-facing platforms or premium subscriber content.
  • Manage and mentor a team of regional scouts or part-time consultants, ensuring quality and consistency in their evaluations and reporting.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required / Strongly Considered:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business, Journalism, or a related field preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience in basketball scouting, coaching, or talent evaluation at the high school, collegiate, or professional level.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate basketball talent across different age groups and skill levels.
  • An understanding of basketball X's and O's, player development, and talent projection.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (estimated 20+ weekends of travel, including nights and weekends).

Optional / Bonus

  • Experience on a college or professional basketball staff
  • Experienced in building an audience on digital platforms
  • Experience managing large datasets or working with database maintenance/management.
  • Ability to manage budgets and track expenses effectively.
  • Reside in a metro area with strong grassroots and high school basketball
