Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a SCM Contracts Advisor for our Toledo Refinery to provide procurement services to maintenance, operations, and business development teams. The role requires knowledge of sourcing practices, RFPs, contract negotiation, and post‑award administration within a complex governance framework.

The candidate should have 4+ years in procurement, a SCM-related degree or equivalent, and an asset for SCMP certification.

Responsibilities

  • Source US Downstream Operations services and materials using Cenovus sourcing practices.
  • Assemble and review RFP documents for scope, performance, and delivery.
  • Negotiate terms with Legal, Risk, Maintenance, and Operations teams.
  • Administer post-award contracts and related documentation.
  • Lead contract strategies; manage PO setup, changes, and invoicing.
  • Act as lead negotiator and direct cross-functional teams.

About this opportunity:

Cenovus Energy is now seeking a talented individual to join our Toledo Refinery in a SCM Contracts Advisor role. Reporting to the Manager, SCM US Downstream Operations, this position will provide procurement-related services to multiple US refinery stakeholders including: maintenance, operations, and business development. This role will provide procurement expertise demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of commodity products, service applications, supply chain sources, procurement strategies, and business process/procedures.

What you’ll do:

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Source various US Downstream Operations services and materials utilizing Cenovus Sourcing Practice including all required strategy, award and contract documentation
  • Assembles and reviews relevant RFP documents for scope of work, performance requirements and delivery schedules considering all commercial aspects of Cenovus Energy internal procedures. Reconciliation of the commercial and technical proposal with the RFP requestor
  • Reviews and negotiates contract terms and conditions in cooperation with Cenovus Energy Legal Counsel, Risk Management, Maintenance, Operations, and Technical Services personnel, as necessary
  • Conduct post-award administration of contracts
  • Contract/negotiation strategies; RFP/RFQ and sourcing documentation; negotiated and executed contracts; Contract Management Plans; PO setup and change updates; invoice review/approval; claims and change assessments; contract close-out documentation and lessons learned
  • Operates with a high degree of independence and authority - acts as lead negotiator and can direct cross-functional teams. Requires complex problem solving (claims, disputes, cost/risk quantification, contract variations) balanced with adherence to defined SCM policies, procedures, and governance processes
Who you are:
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a post-secondary degree in Supply Chain Management or a related field and/or Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) certification considered an asset
  • 4+ years of work history, including experience in a procurement environment
