Job description

Scintillator Detector Assembly Technician
United Global Technologies - Batavia, IL, United States

Need a person to assist in scintillator detector design, prototyping, assembly, and test for the scintillator planes that are to be used in underwater detectors.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in facility setup
  • Prepare prototypes and develop final assembly procedures
  • Prepare scintillator samples for light yield measurement. Measure samples using existing system and record data in Excel.
  • Support operation of the extrusion line. Assist in both the running of the extrusion line and QC of the resultant parts.
  • Report on activities and results from tests, measurements, and assembly.
Qualifications:

We are interested in technicians who have at least 3 years of experience with radiation detectors, including plastic scintillator detectors. Experience in the following is desirable:

  • Extruded scintillator or fiber scintillator detectors.
  • Radiation detector assembly and test.
  • Radiation detector readout and test.
  • Radiation detector system mechanical design and assembly.
Additional Desired Experience:

A candidate with work experience in one or more of these areas is desired:

  • Profile extrusion, including line operation and die and sizer design fundamentals.
  • Injection molding, including machine operation and mold design.
  • Plastics testing and analysis.
