Job summary

Eurofins EAG Laboratories in Sunnyvale, CA, seeks a TEM Scientist to join our Advanced Microscopy team. You will operate state-of-the-art TEM equipment, analyze materials, and deliver high-quality, site-specific insights to guide client decisions.

The ideal candidate has a PhD in Materials Science or a related field and at least 3 years of hands-on TEM experience, with expertise in TEM/STEM, SAED, EDS, and EELS. Strong communication skills are essential.

  • 3+ years hands-on TEM analysis experience.
  • Strong understanding of TEM technologies including TEM/STEM, SAED, EDS and EELS.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with team members to provide high-quality TEM analysis services to clients.
  • Operate TEM tools to obtain TEM/STEM images, SAED, EDS, and EELS data from samples.
  • Develop TEM analysis protocols and techniques to meet client requests.
  • Create summary reports detailing project objectives, analysis data, and interpretations.

Job Description

Join our Advanced Microscopy team and play a key role in solving complex materials and semiconductor challenges using cutting‑edge Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). We are seeking talented Scientists who are passionate about hands‑on analysis, advanced characterization techniques, and delivering impactful results for clients across a wide range of industries.

In this production‑focused role, you’ll spend significant time operating state‑of‑the‑art TEM instrumentation, analyzing advanced materials, and providing high‑quality, site‑specific insights that drive critical client decisions. The ideal candidate is a technically strong contributor who thrives in a fast‑paced laboratory environment, enjoys working directly with sophisticated tools, and takes pride in delivering accurate, timely results while meeting client expectations.

The TEM Scientist Will Be Responsible For
  • Partnering with team members to provide high‑quality analysis service to clients.
  • Operating TEM tools to obtain TEM/STEM images, SAED, EDS, and EELS data from samples.
  • Developing TEM analysis protocols/techniques to meet clients’ requests.
  • Creating summary reports to capture the project objectives, analysis data, and interpretation of the results.
Typical Day Would Involve
  • Operating the TEM tools (FEI or JEOL electron microscopes) and collecting TEM/STEM images based on customers' requests.
  • Performing elemental analysis such as EDS/EELS, collecting and processing the data, and creating the reports.
  • Engaging in discussions with customers to solve their questions and concerns.
Work Schedule
  • 5 pm–2 am, Tuesdays to Saturdays OR Sundays to Thursdays.
  • Shift differential will apply.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or related field.
  • Must have 3 years+ hands‑on experience in TEM analysis characterizing a variety of materials.
  • Excellent understanding of the operations and principles of TEM tools.
  • Expert background in electron microscopy, including TEM/STEM, SAED, 4D‑STEM, EDS and EELS.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
What Would Set You Apart
  • Familiarity with FEI and JEOL electron microscope tools.
  • Experience with semiconductor chip products and wafer samples is a plus.

Compensation is aligned with market standards for the region and tailored to individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets, and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
  • Ability to handle small and fragile devices with tweezers and/or fingers.
  • Require close‑distance visual acuity with or without correction (glasses, contacts, etc.).
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time.
