Job summary

Eurofins EAG Laboratories in Sunnyvale/Milpitas, CA is seeking a skilled Scientist to join the TEM group. You will operate TEM tools to obtain TEM/STEM images, SAED, EDS and EELS data from samples and develop analysis protocols to meet client requests.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (or related field) with 3+ years of hands-on TEM experience and strong communication skills. Night shift: 5pm–2am, Tue–Sat or Sun–Thu, with shift differential.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years hands-on experience in TEM analysis.
  • Excellent understanding of TEM operations and principles, including TEM/STEM, SAED, EDS and EELS.

Responsibilities

  • Operate TEM tools to obtain TEM/STEM images, SAED, EDS and EELS data from samples.
  • Develop TEM analysis protocols/techniques to meet clients’ requests.
  • Create summary reports to capture project objectives, data and interpretation of results.
  • Engage with customers to discuss findings and address questions.

Job Description

We have a great opportunity for a skilled Scientist to join our dynamic TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) group at our Sunnyvale or Milpitas, CA lab.

The TEM Scientist will be responsible for:

  • Partnering with team members to provide high quality analysis service to clients.
  • Operating TEM tools to obtain TEM/STEM images, SAED, EDS and EELS data from samples.
  • Developing TEM analysis protocols/techniques to meet clients’ requests.
  • Creating summary reports to capture the project objectives, analysis data and interpretation of the results.

A typical day would involve-

  • Operating the TEM tools (FEI or JEOL electron microscopes) and collecting TEM/STEM images based on customers’ requests.
  • Performing elemental analysis such as EDS/EELS (collecting/process the data and creating the reports).
  • Engaging in discussions with customers to solve their questions and concerns.
Work Schedule

5pm-2am, Tuesdays to Saturdays OR Sundays to Thursdays

Shift differential will apply

Qualifications
  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related field.
  • Must have 3yrs+ hands‑on experience in TEM analysis characterizing a variety of materials.
  • Excellent understanding of the operations and principles of TEM tools.
  • Expert background in electron microscopy, including TEM/STEM, SAED, 4D-STEM, EDS and EELS.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
What would set you apart:
  • Familiarity with FEI and JEOL electron microscope tools.
  • Experience with semiconductor chip products and wafer samples is a plus.

Compensation is aligned with market standards for the region and tailored to individual qualifications and experience.

Work Authorization Requirement

This role supports work subject to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR).

To be eligible, candidates must be authorized to access export‑controlled information under U.S. law. This typically includes individuals who are:

  • U.S. citizens
  • U.S. lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders)
  • Individuals granted asylum or refugee status in the United States

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
  • Ability
  • to handle small and fragile devices with tweezers and /or fingers.
  • Require close distance visual acuity with or without correction (Glasses, Contacts, etc.).
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time.
