Job description

Job Description

Scribe Therapeutics is a molecular engineering company focused on creating best-in-class in vivo therapies that permanently treat the underlying cause of disease. Founded by CRISPR inventors and leading molecular engineers Benjamin Oakes, Brett Staahl, David Savage, and Jennifer Doudna, Scribe is overcoming the limitations of current genome editing technologies by developing custom engineered enzymes and delivery modalities as part of a proprietary, evergreen CRISPR by Design platform for CRISPR-based genetic medicine.

We are seeking a highly creative, passionate, and motivated individual to join us in our quest to develop the next generation of CRISPR-based therapeutics. The current role is for a Scientist II/Sr. Scientist I to advance our efforts in engineering highly active and specific AAV cargo constructs for CRISPR delivery. The candidate should have strong expertise in AAV and molecular biology and a passion for creating innovative tools to meet the challenges of this new frontier in genetic medicine.

The role involves collaboration across interdisciplinary teams, including disease experts and computational biologists. The candidate will have opportunities for professional growth in a rapidly expanding biotechnology startup, including leadership development and the chance to publish impactful research in peer-reviewed journals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and optimize controlled expression of CRISPR systems in AAV
  • Develop and execute screens to assess critical characteristics of CRISPR delivery constructs in pooled and arrayed formats
  • Develop and perform assays to characterize CRISPR delivery constructs, such as cell type specificity and expression
  • Collaborate with pre-clinical therapeutic groups internally and externally to advance AAV drug components
  • Analyze experimental data and communicate findings through presentations and reports
  • Manage project responsibilities, present updates, and communicate research plans and timelines to senior leadership
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure project execution within established timelines
  • Mentor junior scientists
  • Foster a dynamic, fast-paced, and engaging scientific environment
Required Skills and Background:
  • PhD in Virology, Cell or Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or related field
  • At least 2 years of industry laboratory experience with expertise in molecular biology, AAV biology, and screening techniques
  • Advanced skills in molecular and cellular biology techniques
  • Strong expertise in AAV biology and gene therapy
  • Experience with CRISPR gene editing systems
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell reporter systems, screening in human cells, and analysis via FACS and NGS
  • Experience with molecular biology, RNA, and protein analysis methods (e.g., ddPCR, RT-qPCR, Western blot)
  • Proven scientific productivity with publications in top journals
Additional Skills and Background:
  • Familiarity with CRISPR therapeutic approaches
  • Experience with functional genomics and next-generation sequencing
  • Knowledge of computational tools for biological data analysis
  • Understanding of statistics for designing and analyzing pooled screens with over 10,000 library members

Salary will be commensurate with experience. We offer an intellectually stimulating, collegial, and fast-paced environment. If you are ready to engineer the future of therapeutics, we look forward to hearing from you! Visit us at www.scribetx.com.

We are committed to diversity and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, genetics, veteran status, or expression.

The base salary range for this role will depend on level, experience, and qualifications. Additional incentives and comprehensive benefits are included in the total compensation package.
