Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a data-focused hydrographic GIS analyst to support NOAA's Office of Coast Survey National Bathymetric Source Operations in Kentucky. The role collaborates with NBS teams to process, review, and qualify hydrographic data in GIS environments.

Responsibilities include producing deconflicted bathymetric products, maintaining bathymetry models, and improving documentation and workflows. Strong Python and GIS skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in hydrography, ocean mapping, physical science, marine science, oceanography, physics, related discipline, or equivalent.
  • Education equivalency: 4 years of work experience.
  • 3-5 years of knowledge and experience in data analysis and GIS and data management techniques.
  • Application software experience including Python, PostgreSQL, QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or CARIS.
  • Programming experience in Python.
  • Experience analyzing, planning, acquiring, integrating, and disseminating ocean and coastal geospatial data and derivative products.
  • Experience developing mapping standards and techniques.
  • Experience improving data management and access.
  • Must be eligible for employment verification as an E-Verify employer.

  • Travel to meet with the NBS Team once per year for an annual planning session.
  • Collaborate with NBS Operations and Development teams on infrastructure and workflow design, development, and improvement.
