Job summary

GT Molecular is seeking a creative, hands-on Scientist II to join our Research & Development team in Fort Collins, Colorado. The role emphasizes prototyping, learning new techniques, and solving ambiguous problems where no playbook exists.

You will design and execute experiments spanning molecular biology, genomics, and assay development, optimize methods, and generate data that drive technical and product decisions while collaborating across teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience in common molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with NGS workflows, their enzymes, and library preparation is a must-have.
  • Apply Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize assays and workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot assays and workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, analyze, and troubleshoot complex experiments in molecular biology and genomics.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate assays and workflows for NGS and nucleic acid extraction.
  • Apply DOE to efficiently optimize assays and workflows.
  • Develop orthogonal assays and validation strategies to evaluate performance.
  • Analyze and communicate results, recommendations, and next steps.
  • Contribute to IP, documentation, and product development activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance R&D goals.
  • Mentor junior team members.

Job description

GT Molecular is seeking a creative, hands-on Scientist II to join our Research & Development team.

We're looking for a scientist who loves tinkering, prototyping, and learning new techniques. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across a variety of projects, tackling ambiguous problems, and developing practical solutions where no established playbook exists.

The successful candidate will support a broad portfolio of R&D activities spanning molecular biology, genomics, assay development, and product development. They will independently design and execute experiments, develop and optimize new methods, and generate data that drive technical and product decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, analyze, and troubleshoot complex experiments in molecular biology and genomics, where no starting protocols may exist.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate assays, workflows, and laboratory methods for NGS, dPCR, qPCR, and nucleic acid extraction
  • Apply Design of Experiments (DOE) principles to efficiently optimize assays and workflows.
  • Develop orthogonal assays and validation strategies to rapidly evaluate performance and guide development decisions.
  • Analyze and communicate experimental results, recommendations, and next steps.
  • Contribute to intellectual property, technical documentation, and product development activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance R&D and product development goals.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
Qualifications
  • PhD with 2-4 years, Master's with 4-6 years, or Bachelor's with 6-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience in common molecular biology techniques
  • Experience with NGS workflows, their enzymes, and library preparation is a must-have
  • Experience using DOE and statistical approaches to guide experimental design
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot assays and experimental workflows.
  • Strong data analysis, communication, and problem-solving skills.
