Scientist I/II – Biologics Generation and AnalyticsAbout the jobPharmaEssentia is a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing innovative therapies to address unmet medical needs in oncology, hematology, and immunology. With a strong foundation in disease biology, biologics, and translational science, we are expanding our research capabilities to drive the next generation of therapeutic breakthroughs. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled scientist to join our Biologics Platform team in the role of Scientist, Biologics Generation and Analytics. This position focuses on recombinant protein expression and purification, as well as performing comprehensive protein analysis, developability, and stability assessments using state-of-the-art biophysical techniques. The successful candidate will support the discovery and development of novel biotherapeutics, including antibodies, cytokines, engineered multi-functional proteins, and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in protein expression systems, purification strategies, and biophysical/biochemical characterization methods, combined with a collaborative and solution-oriented approach to advancing our biologics pipeline.Responsibilities- Design, express, and purify recombinant protein and biologics (e.g., cytokine, antibodies, multi-specific formats, fusion proteins) to support PharmaEssentia’s research and early development programs.
- Lead analytical, developability, and stability assessment of biologics using techniques such as SDS-PAGE, HPLC, SEC, BLI/SPR, and ELISA to assess purity, binding, and CMC properties.
- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot protocols for biologics generation and analytics workflows, ensuring high-quality and reproducible results.
- Provide technical expertise, guidance, and mentorship to junior team members, cultivating an environment of continuous learning and growth.
- Participate in project teams, identify and prioritize critical experiments to accelerate the drug discovery programs, and contribute to an innovative product portfolio with diverse modalities.
- Constantly assess and implement new technology to the existing workflow to improve efficiency and to enhance biologics production and analytical capabilities.
Qualification- PhD in Biochemistry, or related biological science disciplines with 2+ year post-graduate experience in Biologics discovery and development function.
- Hands-on experience in biologics production using mammalian expression systems (e.g., transient/stable transfection in HEK293 or CHO cells).
- Proficiency in protein purification techniques including affinity, ion exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography.
- Expertise in protein analytical techniques such as UV-VIS, SEC-HPLC, RP-HPLC, CE-SDS, cIEF/IEX DLS, and DSF.
- Experience in protein purification using automated (AKTA) systems and purification of constructs with appropriate tags.
Preferred Qualification- Hands-on experience with antibody engineering, multi-specific antibody formats, or Fc-fusion protein generation.
- Knowledge of developability assessments and early characterization assays for biologics.
- Familiarity with bioconjugation, purification and characterization processes relevant to ADC development and manufacturing.
- Experience using automation platforms for high-throughput protein expression, purification, and analytical workflows.
