The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Ped - Pulmonary, is seeking a skilled and experienced Scientist I to join their team. The Harris laboratory studies cystic fibrosis (CF) with a particular focus on targetable mechanisms of disease heterogeneity or developing novel approaches to therapy in preclinical models. As CFTR is an ion channel expressed primarily in epithelial and glandular cells, the applicant should have deep expertise in cell and molecular biology. In addition to standard biochemical techniques, this applicant would also benefit from previous experience in organoid work and electrophysiology, as these are some of the functional readouts of CFTR‑directed intervention. Collaborating within the CF Research Center, the applicant should also be a generous teammate and communicator. Under minimal supervision, the applicant will assist the PI in all laboratory activities including but not limited to designing and executing experiments to meet the scientific goals of the lab; collecting, recording and ensuring accuracy of data; providing prompt and accurate summaries of the data; and recognizing methodological problems and implementing pragmatic solutions. The successful applicant should have meticulous molecular and cell biology skills, as much of the bench work involves developing and probing preclinical cellular models.
