Job summary

Eurofins USA Discovery Services in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Scientist I to join its Drug Discovery team. You will support cell-based screening operations using automation platforms, plate readers, and liquid handling to enable large-scale screening campaigns.

Requirements include a B.S. in biological sciences with 2–5 years of relevant experience, hands-on mammalian cell culture, and data analysis skills (Spotfire or similar).

Qualifications

• B.S. in biological sciences with 2-5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in an operations-type screening lab with mammalian cell lines is required.
• Experience performing and analyzing quantitative cell-based and/or biochemical assays is required.

Responsibilities

• Screening cell-based assays in an operations setting using plate readers and lab automation.
• Lead for assigned assay sets, develop weekly assay schedule and execute assays with minimal supervision.
• Coordinate multiple projects including large-scale safety pharmacology panels, routinely scheduled screens, HTS campaigns, and ad-hoc requests.
• Maintain 25+ cell lines and provide screening plates or ready cells per business needs.
• Support compound management using acoustic dispensing.
• Optimize screening assays to improve turnaround time (TAT).
• Coordinate cross-site screening facility efforts and train new staff.
• Maintain data with CBIS, perform data QC and generate customer reports.

As a Scientist I, you'll be at the forefront of cell-based screening operations, utilizing advanced automation platforms, liquid handling systems, and analytical tools to support large-scale screening campaigns. Here's what you'll do:

• Be responsible for screening cell-based assays in an operations setting using plate reader such as EnVision or FLIPR instrumentation, liquid handling, and other lab automation.
• Serveas the primary point of contact and lead for assigned assay sets, responsible for developing the weekly assay schedule and independently executing assays with minimal supervision.
• Co-ordinate multiple projects simultaneously. This includes efforts for a bi-weekly large-scale safety pharmacology panel, routinely scheduled screens, HTS campaigns, and ad-hoc requests.
• Maintain all (25+) cell lines needed for the operation and providing screening plates or assays ready cells according to the business needs.
• Maintain inventory of bulk vials to sustain the business continuity.
• Support compound management by utilizing acoustic dispensing (Echo or ATS).
• Be incharge of optimizing screening assays to improve TAT.
• Coordinate cross-site screening facility efforts
• Set up training for new employees, establish and curate SOPs and routine QC.
• Be heavily involved in data management while optimizing workflow and remedy error prone steps and understand data management in CBIS.
• Independently analyze screening results, provide initial data QC using Spotfire or other data visualization tools. Perform large-scale data analysis and generate customer reports.
• Maintainaccurate and organized records for all assay related work

Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

• B.S.in biological sciences with 2-5 years of relevant experience. Experience working in an operations type screening lab maintaining mammalian cell lines is required. Experience performing and analyzing quantitative cell-based and/or biochemical assays is required.
• Experience with data management, including databases; assay troubleshooting experience. Maintains accurate and organized records for assay.
• Skilled in mammalian cell culture, biochemical and/or cell-based assay design, execution, and analysis. Skilled with data management and analysis software (i.e. Excel/GraphPad Prism or similar). Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Excellent scheduling skills
• Skilled in assay troubleshooting and data management.

Additional Information

The position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., with overtime as needed. Candidates within a commutable distance of San Diego, CA are encouraged to apply.

Pay rate range: $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
