Job description

Scientist, Analytical Chemistry/QC

W2 Contract

Salary Range: $104,000- $114,400 per year

Location: Alameda, CA - Onsite Role

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Process a high volume of fermentation and related samples in a high throughput environment using various analytical instrumentation, including GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC, and LC-MS
  • Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments on a routine basis
  • Process large data sets using analytical instrument software and Microsoft Excel
  • Interact with cross-departmental teams to support the generation of high-quality data and data analysis within short timelines
  • Present data to colleagues and management on a regular basis
  • Develop and maintain analytical methods and workflows
  • Research literature and resources to develop, validate, and qualify new analytical methods
  • Design and execute research experiments
  • Review existing processes and recommend appropriate changes
  • Monitor laboratory consumables and reorder as necessary
  • Maintain, develop, or revise standard operational and working practices to ensure compliance with company standards
  • Compliance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Compliance with hazardous material guidelines


Requirements and Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in chemistry or relevant life science discipline
  • Experience with GC-FID and at least one relevant field (GC, HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS) desired
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite of products and Google platform
  • Ability to manage parallel workflows in a high-throughput environment
  • Attention to detail and excellent skills in record-keeping/documentation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds with assistance
  • Critical thinking and ability to analyze data; ability to identify aberrant data and effectively communicate observations to management
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop improved methodologies
  • Ability to function effectively and independently in a fast-paced, mission-oriented environment with multiple competing priorities
  • Eagerness and ability to learn and understand new concepts
