Collabera is seeking a Scientist to develop robust automation workflows for cryogenic electron microscopy (cryoEM) data processing, reporting, and scientific decision support.
This scientist will combine practical understanding of structural biology and cryoEM workflows with strong computational skills to leverage AI to reduce manual documentation, improve data traceability, and create standardized, reusable analysis tools.
Standard schedule is approximately 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, with a generally consistent schedule expected. No routine overtime or weekend work is anticipated. The assignment is expected to run for 12 months,
Candidates outside the area may be considered if they are willing and able to relocate at their own expense.
The ideal candidate is an early-career structural biologist with strong, hands-on cryo-EM data-processing experience and enough scientific computing/programming proficiency to develop practical tools that improve and automate scientific data workflows. The manager is prioritizing scientific and structural-biology depth over traditional software-development expertise; candidates should understand cryo-EM data and be comfortable working beyond basic GUI/tutorial-driven workflows, including command-line environments and high-performance computing (HPC). Python is preferred, but other programming languages are acceptable. A recent PhD is ideal, although candidates with a master’s degree plus relevant experience will also be considered.
Please address these points in the candidate summary submitted with each resume:
(1) Describe the candidate’s cryo-EM experience, including the applicable subfield(s) and the work they personally performed.
(2) Confirm whether the candidate has direct, hands-on responsibility for cryo-EM data processing and structure determination/solving; please distinguish this from upstream contributions such as protein purification or sample preparation.
(3) Briefly describe the candidate’s experience with scientific computing, including command-line environments, HPC clusters/job schedulers, programming or scripting, and any examples of customizing or troubleshooting data-processing workflows.
