Bristol Myers Squibb's New Brunswick Kilo Lab is seeking a Scientist to translate laboratory chemical processes into scalable manufacturing steps. You will lead process scale-up, design campaigns, select equipment, plan materials, ensure safety, and document all activities supporting GMP drug substance production for clinical development.
You will collaborate with chemists, engineers, and analytical scientists across functions to drive robust processes, implement new technologies, and deliver
At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits. This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it. Our Chemical Process Development group is a team of organic chemists, analytical chemists, and chemical engineers working together to design novel syntheses from raw materials to supply new medicines to patients. Our scientists focus on developing safe, economical, sustainable, and robust processes to support clinical trials and the launch of new medicines across various drug modalities including small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides, and antibody drug conjugates. Our work combines innovative science, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration to translate laboratory chemistry into reliable manufacturing processes. The scientific and process knowledge generated through development, scale-up, and manufacturing establishes the process understanding, design parameters, and control strategies needed to support regulatory filings and the delivery of new medicines to patients worldwide.
The Kilo Lab Scientist plays a key role in translating laboratory-developed chemical processes into safe, robust, and executable manufacturing processes within the New Brunswick Kilo Lab and beyond. Working hands‑on with multidisciplinary Chemical Process Development teams, the scientist is responsible for the preparation, scale‑up, and execution of processes supporting the manufacture of GMP active drug substance for pharmaceutical development. The scientist leads and coordinates manufacturing campaign activities, including process design and scale‑up, equipment selection and setup, materials planning, process safety evaluation review, recipe development, batch execution, equipment cleaning, process documentation, and post‑campaign assessment. The role requires a combination of scientific understanding, practical problem‑solving, and mechanical aptitude, with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental compliance. Kilo Lab Scientists execute processes from laboratory scale through 200L and work directly with processing equipment throughout campaign preparation and manufacturing. The Kilo Lab also provides an environment for evaluating and implementing emerging manufacturing technologies and methodologies, giving scientists opportunities to contribute to the advancement of how new novel medicines are scaled and manufactured. The Kilo Lab Scientist will be able to assume roles in Chemical Development Engineering to support the transfer scale‑up experience that strengthens the operational and equipment knowledge base, understanding of scale‑up risk and development of safe, scalable processes, and tech transfer skills through the organization.
