Job summary

Lynker is seeking a sharp Web Developer for a long term contract supporting the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) at the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). The role focuses on developing, maintaining, and testing scientific software tools used in space weather modeling, analysis, and forecasting.

The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills (Python, Fortran, or C/C++), experience in Linux, and familiarity with data formats like NetCDF/HDF5.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years web development experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, Fortran, or C/C++, with Linux-based experience.
  • Familiarity with Git, NetCDF, and HDF5; scripting for workflows.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets and communicate results.

Responsibilities

  • Write, refactor, and maintain scientific code for processing observational data and supporting forecast workflows.
  • Support containerization of scientific applications using Docker or Singularity.
  • Assist in design, setup, and execution of testbed experiments and integration of models & inputs.
  • Perform data analysis and quality control of space weather datasets for experiments.
  • Contribute to GUI or visualization tool development to enhance forecast usability.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and forecasters to align code with operational constraints.
  • Document software, experiments, and evaluation results; participate in briefings.
