AdventHealth, a large multi-state integrated health system with headquarters and a flagship network in Orlando, Florida, seeks a collaborative and visionary physician-scientist to serve in the inaugural role of Scientific Director, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) for the AdventHealth Research Institute (AHRI).

This role is an extraordinary opportunity for an accomplished and forward-thinking physician investigator to drive and expand leading-edge research within the 8th largest not-for-profit health system in the United States. The system’s scientific catchment area includes more than 55 hospitals spans nine states, encompassing skilled nursing facilities, home health, hospice services, and more. The Scientific Director, HEOR will make a tremendous impact in accelerating epidemiologic and outcomes-based research across the system while also leveraging the extensive, enterprise-wide data warehouse to both inform and improve care across the Central Florida Division. The incoming leader will join a well-resourced, mission-driven organization and play a pivotal role in advancing translational, epidemiologic, and outcomes-based research – all while living and working in beautiful Orlando, Florida.

The Opportunity

In partnership with the Executive Director, the Scientific Director will define and lead the vision for the AdventHealth Research Institute’s Outcomes Research program. The Director will lead an internally and externally funded research program and provide scientifically rigorous consultation, feasibility assessments, and data strategy guidance to physician scientists system wide. This role is central to expanding large-scale, data-driven research aimed at informing and improving patient care.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have 10 or more years of experience using large-scale healthcare data to address research hypotheses. They will be experienced in working with diverse data sources, such as clinical trial data, electronic health record data, insurance claims data, patient-reported data, biospecimen data and disease/patient registry data and be proficient with SAS, R, or equivalent query languages as well as the management and manipulation of large datafiles or datasets. Candidates should have a track record of obtaining and leading externally funded research supported by NIH, industry, foundations, or other sources. An MD, DO, or MD/PhD is preferred.

The Organization

The AdventHealth Research Institute and the Central Florida Division conduct ongoing health care research studies with the goal of discovering new treatments, diagnostic methods, and preventive care for some of the most serious diseases. The scientific capabilities of this division span all facets of research including therapeutic clinical trials (Phase I, II, III pharma and medical device), translational studies, population health, health economics, implementation science and more. The Advent Health Research Institute is housed in the Central Florida Division and consists of 200 active principal investigators across 11 therapeutically aligned teams.
