Scientific Data Management Specialist, Washington, D.C. area

Experienced data management specialist to facilitate the processing of large amounts of data in various forms.

The candidates for this position should be able to perform the following duties:

• Design, development, implementation, and management of automatic data processing infrastructure for large databases;
• Design, build, and maintain their customized databases, within a mature integrating system;
• Develop and improve the infrastructure supporting these systems;
• Formal Education (minimum: bchelor's in life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, or computer science);
• Strong knowledge of Perl, including the use of standard Perl modules and object-oriented Perl;
• Experience with Linux/UNIX and scripting in that OS;
• Experience with automatic data processing pipelines;
• Familiarity with high performance computing;
• Effective verbal and written communication skills;

Desired Skills:

• Experience with SQL;
• Knowledge of genetics, especially human genetics;
• Experience with grid computing (LSF,SunGrid, etc.);
• Experience with C/C++;
• Experience with XML/XSLT and related web based tools;
