Spring 2027 applications close on September 30, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.A typical Spring (semester-term) appointment is 16 consecutive weeks on site at a host laboratory. Summer appointments are typically 10 consecutive weeks. Remote internships are not available.You receive a stipend of $650 per week. One round-trip domestic travel reimbursement is available if your permanent address is more than 50 miles from the host laboratory. Housing information is provided before you arrive; options vary by laboratory.You must be currently enrolled full time as an undergraduate at an accredited community college, two-year, or four-year institution, or a recent graduate who completed an undergraduate degree before the internship starts. You need a high school diploma or GED by the deadline, at least one completed matriculated undergraduate semester, 6 STEM plus 12 total undergraduate credit hours, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, age 18 or older when the internship begins, and U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status.Apply with undergraduate transcripts, two letters of support, and essays in the online system. One round-trip domestic travel reimbursement if your permanent address is more than 50 miles from the host laboratory (private auto at the government rate, up to $500 or lowest commercial airfare, whichever is lower). Housing information before arrival; allowance at laboratories that do not offer direct housing.### Who can applyOpen to full-time undergraduates at accredited community colleges, two-year, and four-year institutions, and to recent graduates who completed an undergraduate degree before the internship starts. For a bachelor's degree, and for an associate's degree if you are not continuing to a bachelor's, the time between the degree and the SULI start must be two years or less. Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Redact Social Security numbers and full dates of birth from transcripts. Lawful permanent residents should contact the prospective laboratory during the application because of foreign-national site access lead times. Offers are contingent on site access.
