  • Age 18 or older at the start of the internship.
  • Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Develop skills with tools such as Git, Bash, Python, and others relevant to the research area.
  • Gather and analyze data and information in support of scientific research.
  • Participate in research planning and evaluation discussion.
  • Attend relevant seminars (at least one per week).

  • May 24, 2027 - August 13, 2027
  • June 14, 2027 - September 3, 2027
  • June 21, 2027 - September 10, 2027

We have multiple openings for ourComputing Undergraduate Early Internship Program.This is an entry-level internship opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited community college or university in Fall of 2027 who are interested in gaining foundational work experience in areas such as computational science, cyber defense, computer science, numerical methods, mathematics, and other related STEM disciplines. No prior professional experience is required. The program offers valuable hands-on experience in practical research to support their educational and career goals.

Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

You will

Pay Range

$23.26 - $31.62 Hourly

This position is under a step structure. Please note that the step placement is determined by your most recent completed academic year.

Security Clearance

None required.However, if your assignment is longer than 179 days cumulatively within a calendar year, you must go through the Personal Identity Verification process. This process includes completing an online background investigation form and receiving approval of the background check.

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

The 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Section 3112, generally prohibits citizens of China, Russia, Iran and North Korea without dual US citizenship or legal permanent residence from accessing specific non-public areas of national security or nuclear weapons facilities. The restrictions of NDAA Section 3112 apply to this position. To be qualified for this position, Candidates must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112.
