Job summary

Woonsocket Education Department, Hamlet Middle School in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, seeks a Science Teacher for Grade 7 for a one-year assignment. The ideal candidate will implement a student-centered program, promote discourse and collaboration, and support diverse learner needs.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnose the learning disablilties of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialist as required.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Required Qualifications
  • RIDE Science (6-12 or 5-8 Middle School)
  • Strong experience working with students with behavioral, social, and emotional challenges
  • RIDE MLL Certification Preferred
  • Right to Read Awareness Certification required
