Job Location: Oakwood School Secondary School - North Hollywood, CA 91601 Position Type: Part Time Salary Range: $23.00 - $25.00 Hourly Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational day school in North Hollywood, California that opened its doors in 1951. DESCRIPTION

Oakwood School seeks a Science Laboratory Assistant to manage our academic science laboratories (5) and stock rooms (2) at the Secondary School campus. Responsibilities include collaborating with the science teachers to set up materials for student labs, assisting with laboratory investigations, keeping inventory of equipment and supplies, and breaking down and cleaning up labs according to set protocols.

In addition to the Science Lab position, an option exists to work an additional 12 hours per week as an assistant in the Academic Resource Center (ARC). This position involves direct interaction with students and faculty in supporting students who need tutoring or proctoring for make-up exams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares labs for teaching and learning according to Oakwood and laboratory learning protocols.
  • Collaborates with teachers in planning and conducting lab investigations.
  • Maintains an organized inventory of lab equipment, chemicals, solutions, and stock room supplies, and notifies department chair of supplies with low inventory levels.
  • Additional responsibilities (for the ARC) will include the following:
    • The assistant will provide standard proctoring to all students and proctoring with accommodations (mostly extra time) for students who qualify. This includes overseeing exams, maintaining academic integrity, providing a supportive and distraction-reduced environment and working with campus partners (teachers and department chairs).
    • The proctor will assist in the processing of testing-related forms and correspondence including emails to faculty and students, data entry and overall clerical functions.
    • The proctor will assist in printing exams, scanning them upon completion, and returning the completed tests to the appropriate faculty member.
    • The proctor will assist in maintaining an organized space

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with extensive lab coursework and 1-2+ years of lab experience
  • Ability to tutor math and science up to 10th grade (e.g., math knowledge of Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2 preferred), as well as assist students with basic organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize and proctor exams for multiple students at a time, including those with accommodations. This includes assisting examinees with interpreting test directions, as needed.
  • Proficient computer skills with the Google suite - Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Microsoft Windows office products - MS Word and Excel and the internet.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to interact kindly and respectfully with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience working in academic labs with middle and high school students.
  • Must be able to prioritize and carry out assignments with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
