Job summary

Coconino Community College is seeking a part-time Science Lab Assistant to ensure labs are prepared and supplies are available for instructor and student use. The position involves 19 hours per week, distributed across 18 weeks in fall, 18 weeks in spring, and 10 weeks in the summer session.

Responsibilities include assisting with lab exercises, restocking reagents, maintaining equipment, inventory control, and ensuring a safe, clean lab environment.

Qualifications

• Must be highly organized and proactive with the ability to multitask while following established protocols.
• Must have good people skills and clear communication with students and staff.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of scheduled laboratory exercises.
• Prepare and restock reagents and solutions for lab procedures.
• Break down carts after labs and maintain equipment.
• Assist with monitoring and inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Assist with maintenance of living organisms and culturing of bacteria (BSL1, BSL2).
• Operate and maintain standard lab equipment.
• Assist with training and supervision of student workers.
• Apply safe lab practices and maintain a clean working environment.
• Complete routine washing of containers used in the laboratory.
• Complete required lab safety training within 30 days of onboarding.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Science lab assistants work to ensure that all supplies and equipment are available and in working order at scheduled class times. Our main objective is to ensure that labs are properly set up for instructor/student use. This is a part-time position; the individual hired will be expected to work 19 hours per week, 18 weeks in fall, 18 weeks in spring, and 10 weeks in the summer session.

• Assist in the preparation of scheduled laboratory exercises
• Prepare and restock simple reagents and solutions required for lab procedures.
• Break down carts upon completion of labs
• Assist with monitoring and inventory of supplies and equipment
• Assist with maintenance of living organisms and culturing of bacteria (BSL1, BSL2)
• Operating and maintaining standard lab equipment
• Assist with training and supervision of student workers
• Application of safe lab practices
• Maintain a safe and clean working and learning environment
• Routine washing of containers used in the laboratory
• Required to complete the lab safety training within 30 days of onboarding
• Perform other duties as assigned

High School Diploma/GED and 0 to 2 years of experience, or equivalent to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Human Resources Department.

Preferred

Experience in a post-secondary setting.
