Metropolitan Community College is seeking a Science Lab Assistant to work with the campus Science Lab Coordinator to prepare, set up and clean science labs for Biology, Chemistry, Physics and General Science classes.

Hours are primarily late afternoon/evening and weekends, with on-campus duties at the South Omaha Campus. The role involves maintaining specimens, assisting with chemical inventories, and performing light clerical tasks under supervision.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a science-related field required.
• One year of work-related experience in education, science labs or similar occupation required.
• Equivalent combination of education and/or work-related experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of basic science theory and applications.
• Knowledge of lab operations, equipment and chemicals.

Responsabilités

• Prepares Lab, sets-up of lab activities/experiments and cleans up.
• Assists with maintaining living laboratory specimens and cleaning aquariums.
• Assists with maintenance of chemical inventory and chemical disposal records.
• Performs clerical duties such as photocopying, laminating, updating records and files under the direction of the Science Lab Coordinator.
• Assists with lab activities (including fieldtrips) when necessary.
• Attends and completes regular safety training and recertification sessions as determined by the department in cooperation with the college Workplace Safety and Health Coordinator.
• Consistently and dependably attends work, activities and functions as scheduled or assigned.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Science Lab Assistant works with the campus Science Lab Coordinator to ensure that labs are prepared, set up and cleaned for science classes, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics and General Science. Helps keep the labs clean and orderly. Recommends to the lab coordinator which supplies need to be ordered or purchased. Hours worked will primarily be late afternoon/evening and weekends with occasional coverage in the absence of the Science Lab Coordinator.This announcement is live through 11:59pm October 25, 2026, and will no longer be posted as of October 26, 2026. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Monday - Thursday 1pm - 10pm, with four hours scheduled either on Fridays or Sundays. During quarter breaks, the schedule will run Monday - Friday for eight hours between 8am and 7pm.On-premise position at South Omaha Campus.

• Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.
• Ability to repair lab equipment as needed and be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Associate's degree in a science-related field required.
• One (1) year of work-related experience in education, science labs or similar occupation required.
• Equivalent combination of education and/or work-related experience will be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, physics or science preferred.
• Valid driver's license and insurability to drive College vehicles preferred.
