Job summary

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital seeks a Science Research Writer (SRW) for the Department of Developmental Neurobiology to communicate the center’s scientific impact and leadership. This role partners with SCEO and internal audiences to craft diverse communications across articles, videos, and publications.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in life sciences or a related field.
• PhD preferred.
• 5+ years in journalism, public information officer or related field.
• Experience with posting to SharePoint or other website platforms.
• Social media management experience.
• ELS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop a strategic science communication plan with the Chair and Leadership Team.
• Serve as the editorial manager and liaison with SCEO for department-level science communication projects.
• Provide writing, editing, and other science communication services to DNB faculty, staff, and students.
• Train researchers on best practices in science communication, including presentations and plain-language writing.
• Review and edit manuscripts for journals, grant applications, and institutional publications.
• Advise authors on effective submission strategies and presentation approaches.
• Track and report progress on editorial projects.
• Support development and presentation of seminars or educational opportunities for investigators.
• Participate in meetings of local and national editorial and related organizations to improve editing skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet department goals and maintain attendance.
