Science Co-Team Leader

Job Summary:

Perform all related functions necessary to curriculum, instruction, staff development and district assessment for a grade level or department team. Selection of Team Leaders is made by district level and building level administrators.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the organization and maintenance of the department’s curriculum elements.
  • Ensure that new and current staff have access to the department, course, or grade level curriculum materials online and in print. Ensure that they are oriented to the curriculum at New Staff Academy.
  • Monitor accuracy of curriculum guides, Google Drive online resources, Programs of study, and instructional materials. Make recommendations for additions and/or deletions to instructional materials.
  • Serve as a member of the Curriculum Instruction Council (CIC) and attend its scheduled meetings and/or as a member of CIC subcommittees.
  • Communicate with CIC, team members, and district leaders the needs, concerns, program changes, and expectations of the team and teachers in regards to curriculum.
  • Plan, execute, and reflect on department / grade team meetings, collaborating with other leaders to lead these meetings.
  • In conjunction with building and district administrators and other team leaders, plan for and provide leadership for professional development designated for department or grade team purposes.
  • Utilize PLC, MTSS, and Adaptive Schools skills to lead and participate in effective meetings and data‑based discussions.
  • Meet with the Curriculum Director and other Team Leaders on a monthly basis.
  • Stay current on and share research regarding the best practices, content expectations, and legislative changes to the curriculum. Encourage and facilitate the same with the members of the grade team or department chairs (i.e. assessment results, publications, PPS expectations, etc.).
  • Lead grade/department team in the implementation of district curriculum review changes and strategic management initiatives including the Curriculum Review Cycle during schedule years.
  • Participate in professional learning activities related to curriculum, assessment, MTSS, and PLCs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education; appropriate Michigan Teacher Certification
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with other district and building level teacher and administrative leaders
  • Ability and willingness to facilitate, teach, and train adult learners
  • Recent experience with curriculum area / grade level
  • A current Portage Public Schools employee
