The New Jersey Tutoring Corps, Inc. is seeking part-time tutors for K–8 students in Kearny, NJ to deliver high-impact math and literacy tutoring. Compensation is $30.00–$40.00 per hour, with paid training and a 401K option. This role requires 60 college credits, strong professionalism, and familiarity with Google Workspace tools.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 60 college credits; tutoring or teaching experience preferred.
• Knowledge of NJ Student Learning Standards for Math & ELA; optional, but a plus.
• Professionalism, reliability, punctuality, communication, and teamwork are essential.
• Gmail email address required or willingness to create one; experience with Google Suite apps.
• Reliable transportation to travel to and between sites.

Responsibilities

• Engage K–8 scholars in math and literacy in small groups (1–4) for 4–6 hours per day.
• Complete daily progress records and attendance using provided tools.
• Prepare lessons digitally, using data to drive instruction and maintain data confidentiality.
• Communicate regularly with site leaders to ensure optimal learning experiences for scholars.

BASIC FUNCTION

The New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc. provides high-impact tutoring in math and literacy to K–8 students, helping to close learning gaps. Tutors work in partnership with local education agencies (LEAs) to support scholars in small groups of 1–4, building foundational skills and confidence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

• Engage K–8 scholars in math and literacy, using an asset-based approach to build skills and confidence, and sit with scholars for 4–6 hours per day;
• Complete daily records, including attendance (digitally) on scholar progress and site needs using the tools provided;
• Prepare lessons digitally, using data to drive instruction, and maintain respect for the confidentiality of all program data;
• Communicate regularly with your site leaders to provide optimum learning experiences for scholars;
• Participate in coaching, implement feedback, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth;
• Believe in the potential of each scholar;
• Demonstrate professionalism, including reliability, punctuality, responsiveness to email communication, and promptly complete all required training;
• Maintain integrity, resilience, trustworthiness, and patience with scholars and teammates.

EMPLOYER QUALIFICATIONS

• Individuals must have a minimum of 60 college credits,
  • Tutoring or teaching experience preferred but not mandatory
  • Some knowledge of instructional frameworks and methodologies, a plus.
• Knowledge of NJ Student Learning Standards for Math & ELA; optional, but a plus.

• Professionalism - we do critical work to help grow scholars' skills and confidence, and we do it with the highest degree of professionalism.
• Strong professionalism, attention to detail, communication, and teamwork.
• Genuine desire to work with young children to impact their education through academic intervention.

• Bilingual (optional, but a plus).
• MUST have a Gmail email address or be willing to create a Gmail account; and experience with Google Suite applications: Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms;

JOB DISCLAIMER

Please note, our tutoring schedule is based on the school calendar for the partners we serve. These calendars include predictable break periods during which onsite staff may not be required to work. The predictable vacation periods include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Winter break (mid-December to mid-January)
• Spring break (mid-March to mid-April)
• Summer break (mid-May to mid-September)
• Detailed dates to follow

Employees have reasonable assurance of returning to work after a predictable vacation period unless otherwise informed.

COMPENSATION: $30- 40/hrs. Vary; Semi-monthly; Paid Training
