Job summary

Friends’ Central School seeks a part-time School Van Driver to operate a nine-passenger van on morning and afternoon routes, ensuring safe transport for pupils between Swarthmore and City Avenue Campus.

This non-exempt, 10-month role reports to the Director of Transportation and requires a valid PA driver’s license, clean driving record, and the ability to pass background checks and pre-employment screenings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check, child abuse clearances, and pre-employment physical/drug screenings.
• Demonstrated ability to fulfill the physical and dexterity requirements of the work.
• Ability to work constructively with students and staff across a range of emotions.

Responsibilities

• Drives a nine (9) passenger van over an assigned route, loading and unloading pupils at designated stops at scheduled times.
• Maintains prescribed rules and regulations to provide for the safety of pupils while boarding, riding, or leaving the van.
• Performs pre- and post-vehicle inspection activities to ensure proper operating conditions, adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation and school standards, and compliance with proper safety standards. Reports the need for repair or maintenance work to the Director of Transportation.
• Keeps all windows, windshields, mirrors, headlights, and taillights clean at all times; sweeps interior van floor and empties trash daily.
• Monitors daily van activities to ensure proper student conduct and adheres to appropriate disciplinary controls.
• Completes and maintains disciplinary documentation, and updated student information as required.
• Renders necessary assistance to students who become ill in the vehicle or who require help boarding or leaving the van.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
