Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Springfield is seeking an Education Transportation Manager to plan, organize, and manage scheduling, routes, drivers and fleets, while supporting education and transportation services.

You will oversee up to ten drivers and twenty monitors, cover shifts as needed, maintain records, ensure compliance with policies, and manage budgets and contracts.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with YMCA policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of state, DOT and RMV rules and regulations.
• A valid Special Driver School Bus Certificate and Massachusetts Bus Driver Instructor Certificate.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year bus driving experience.
• Valid Class B Driver's license with school bus, safety and passenger endorsements.
• Clean driving record.
• Track record of safe practices working with children.
• First Aid, CPR/AED certification.
• Good oral and written communication
• Must be able to multi-task and work under time constraints; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate all bus routes with the Executive Director of Education.
• Manage staff of up to ten bus and van drivers and twenty bus monitors.
• Cover driver shifts (morning, noon or evening).
• Coordinate field trips with Association staff.
• Upkeep maintenance records for all drivers and vehicles.
• Follow Association policies, procedures and regulations.
• Monitor and report driver issues such as accidents, safety concerns or licensing.
• Handle customer complaints and investigate lateness, damages or loss.
• Negotiate contracts with outside transportation companies and recommend cost effective methods of transportation.
• Be fiscally responsible for the transportation department; create and manage a budget; raise revenue outside those received from parents for daily transportation.
• Role model acceptable behavior, demonstrate maturity and use sound judgment when decision-making.
