Job summary

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Atlanta is seeking a School Success Caseworker to connect newcomer families with schools and community resources. You will lead afterschool and summer programs, provide tutoring and mentoring, and help families navigate school systems.

Job Overview: The IRC Atlanta Youth Program helps refugee youth build the skills and resources to succeed in school. The School Success Caseworker connects newcomer families with schools and with special learning or medical needs to school- and community-based resources, supports engagement with local school systems, and leads family outreach and referral efforts. This position reports to the Youth Supervisor.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Implement daily in-person afterschool and summer program activities.

Provide tutoring, homework assistance, mentoring, and social-emotional learning support.

Support student recruitment, attendance monitoring, and family outreach.

Coordinate workshops, enrichment opportunities, and field trips.

Maintain participant records, case notes, and program data.

Support school enrollment activities and orientation events under direction of the Coordinator.

Assist with volunteer coordination and support activities as assigned.

Education Case Management:

Receive and respond to referrals from IRC's internal referral system, collaborating with staff across IRC programs.

Receive and respond to referrals from school partners for families needing help connecting to school or navigating instructional changes.

Support the grant management, outcomes tracking, monitoring and evaluation, compliance, and funder reporting, including RSIG-DHS services, billing, and monitoring.

Support families of children with complex medical or learning needs in accessing accommodations such as IEPs, therapeutic services (PT/OT/Speech), hospital homebound, 504 plans, Extended Learning Time, counseling, and afterschool programs.

Serve as a point of contact for school staff to help coordinate services for IRC clients.

Use interpretation services, conduct family outreach, attend school meetings, and help families navigate and engage with the school system.

Refer to Health and Wellness, Extended Case Management, and other services to meet students' complex needs.

Build supportive, trauma-informed relationships with refugee youth and families to support their academic and long-term goals.

Program Monitoring and Reporting:

Track data and complete reporting to meet funder and internal monitoring requirements.

Complete case notes and maintain a case record for all clients served.

Gather feedback to improve IRC's partnership with districts, schools, and enrollment processes.

Program Support:

Support enrollment of school-aged IRC-resettled youth in local schools, including transporting families as needed.

Connect with school district staff to strengthen IRC's partnership with the district and schools.

Participate in program meetings and staff development as an engaged team member.

Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or related field of study preferred.

Work Experience:

Minimum two years' experience working with students and families in education or social services, such as family engagement or case management.

Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations; cross-cultural or overseas experience.

Experience working with multi-lingual learners or supporting families of multi-lingual learners.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

Experience in local education and social service systems for youth.

Strong understanding of accommodations and supports for children/families with complex needs.

Flexible and adaptable, able to adjust plans quickly to student needs or unexpected circumstances.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Able to work well with diverse cultural backgrounds; strong attention to detail.

Able to work independently and as part of a team, including remotely, managing time and tasks responsibly.

Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, diverse environment.

Fluent in predominant language of local client base a plus but not required (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, etc.).

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.

Valid driver's license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and 'field' time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Compensation: ($21.61/hr - $22.75/hr). Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements
