School Substitute Nurse

Position Overview The School Nurse promotes and maintains health, prevents illness and injuries, facilitates removal of health‑related barriers to learning, and supports the physical, mental, emotional, and social health of students and staff. The School Nurse performs all duties in accordance with Pinecrest Academy Policy and Procedure and Georgia state law regarding nurse practice.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse; graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Georgia Registered Nurse license.
  • Minimum two years clinical experience preferred (e.g., emergency room, pediatrics, hospital care).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
  • Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technology.
  • Strong communication skills with a team‑oriented approach and proactive attitude.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment, following professional standards, school policy, physician orders, and state/local mandates.
  • Assume responsibility for assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and referrals for students with health concerns.
  • Administer first aid and other emergency care in accordance with established procedures, acting with authority in the absence of a physician or emergency personnel.
  • Manage a medication administration program, including proper documentation.
  • Monitor students with chronic disease and collaborate with physicians and parents to create individualized care plans.
  • Participate as a member of the Emergency Response team, providing CPR and AED training to staff and maintaining monthly maintenance of AEDs.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date cumulative health records on each student to assure compliance with state law regarding immunizations.
  • Implement school policy on exclusion and readmission related to immunization regulation or infectious disease control.
  • Collect and record each student’s health information, medical consents, physical exams, and when needed health care plans.
  • Maintain an accurate current list of student health concerns for distribution on a need‑to‑know basis.
  • Organize and maintain an efficient clinic, ordering supplies and providing a conducive environment for wellness.
  • Collaborate with school staff to develop, promote, and implement a healthy school environment.
  • Act as a resource to teachers on health‑related subject matter and specific student needs.
  • Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and curriculum.
  • Provide information about blood‑borne pathogen risk control and universal precautions to all staff in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with staff and families regarding health concerns and maintain communication with teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians to meet health and safety needs of students and community.
  • Provide health services, information, and counseling in an effective and positive manner.
  • Complete Accident Reports for student/staff injuries that require medical attention.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health‑related issues.
  • Maintain student visits in Magnus Student Medical Record computerized health record system.
  • Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
  • Maintain contact with professional nursing organization and pursue continuing education opportunities.
  • Represent health/wellness and participate as an active member of the school community.
  • Maintain CPR instructor certification.
