SCHOOL-BASED SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
Summary Description

Under the general supervision of the Site Administrator and the Special Education Coordinator for some itinerant staff, the Speech Language Pathologist provides direct and consultative service to special needs students to improve communication as it relates to school tasks; intervention is provided in the students' least restrictive academic environment and may include integrated service in the classroom, pullout sessions, collaboration with school staff, observation, and consultation to the IEP team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides diagnostic, remedial, and consultative services for students across domains of communication, including, but not limited to receptive/expressive communication disorders, articulation/phonological disorders, fluency, and voice.
  • Assists in the identification of students who are at risk because of educational, physical, or mental limitations and aids in the development of the assessment process and written procedures.
  • Conducts educational-related or early intervention assessments, including student observation, record review, interviews, and standardized or non-standard testing procedures, and prepares comprehensive assessment reports within specified timelines.
  • Participates as a member of the IEP team in determining appropriate treatment, developing long‑ and short‑term goals and objectives.
  • Develops and implements a therapy intervention plan designed to enable the student to benefit from special education.
  • Provides services on an individual or group basis in the least restrictive environment; maintains records, materials, equipment, and other treatment supplies; remains current with approaches, methodologies, and research to foster professional growth; and informs principals, teachers, other personnel, and parents about speech‑language services.
Qualifications
Education
  • Master's degree in speech‑language pathology preferred (or equivalent).
  • Bachelor's degree required.
Experience
  • At least one year of school experience desirable, but not required.
Licenses & Certificates

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Nevada driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and a valid Nevada Teaching License in Speech and Language Impairments. Ability to obtain a certificate of clinical competence through a national organization is preferred.

  • Use of standardized assessments to identify communication disorders.
  • Interpretation of Individualized Education Plans.
  • Understanding of school‑age speech and language developmental milestones.
  • File and records management, office procedures, and basic computer literacy.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Rare exposure to weather, loud noises, hazardous materials, and working at heights.
  • Occasional working in confined spaces; frequently standing, walking, bending, stooping, and fine motor tasks; rarely lifting/carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, or climbing.

Salary and Benefits

Certified School‑Based Therapy Salary Schedule applies. Full benefits are available for employees regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance (no waiting period, with 100% premium coverage), sick and holiday pay, vacation time, PERS contributions, salary increases, longevity bonuses, and guidance resources. Temporary employees working less than six months do not receive benefits.
