Job summary

Onward Education is seeking a School Social Worker for the upcoming school year in Allegan County, Michigan. This on-site role supports students’ social, emotional, and behavioral well-being to promote a positive learning environment and ends May 28, 2027.

Responsibilities include individual and group counseling, crisis response, and collaboration with families and staff to remove barriers to learning and promote student success.

Qualifications

• Valid state school social work license or certification.
• Prior experience working with students in a school setting.
• Strong communication and crisis intervention skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with families, staff, and external resources.
• Knowledge of social-emotional development and prevention programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling to assist students facing personal challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or family issues.
• Support students with developing coping strategies and emotional resilience.
• Respond promptly to crisis situations like bullying, abuse, or self-harm incidents, offering immediate support and connecting students to resources.
• Collaborate with families to address concerns impacting student well-being and academic success, providing referrals as needed.
• Advocate for students' access to necessary resources and help remove barriers to learning related to absenteeism, poverty, or family circumstances.
