Job description

The Greenspire School is hiring a part-time Middle School Social Worker or Counselor.

Summary

Under the direction of the Principal, the School Social Worker will promote the academic success, emotional well-being, and social development of middle school students. The Social Worker will provide direct services, early interventions, and crisis support, while serving as a bridge between home, school, and community resources to meet students' social and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group support focused on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and social skill development
  • Conduct assessments to identify barriers to student learning and well-being
  • Develop and implement student support and intervention plans in collaboration with staff and families
  • Connect students and families to community-based resources for mental health, housing, food, medical, and other needs
  • Support crisis intervention, risk assessments, and safety planning
  • Consult with teachers, staff, and administration to promote trauma-informed and restorative practices
  • Assist with the delivery of schoolwide social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives and prevention programs
  • Help students and families navigate transitions, attendance issues, and behavioral concerns
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with confidentiality, FERPA, and professional standards
  • Provide professional development to staff on student mental health topics when appropriate
  • Participate in evaluation and continuous improvement of school mental health programming

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work
  • Valid Michigan licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Limited License Master Social Worker (LLMSW)
  • Meet Michigan Department of Education requirements for school social work certification

Preferred:

  • Experience working with middle school-aged students
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS)
  • Strong collaboration skills with families, teachers, and community partners

Work Details

Location: The Greenspire School (Middle School Campus)

Schedule: 24 hours per week; follows a 10-month, teacher calendar

Salary: $26,000–$29,000 annually (prorated based on FTE); not benefits eligible

Start Date: August 18, 2025
