Job summary

Marion P. Thomas Charter School in Newark, NJ seeks a compassionate Social Worker to advocate for students and support their social-emotional development within established timelines and standards.

The role includes collaborating with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to implement strategies, observe classrooms, gather data, and contribute to IEP planning, while adhering to federal and state regulations.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.
  • New Jersey Permanent School Social Worker certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Confer with and support teachers in planning strategies, adapting teaching practices, and making modifications that help students meet the Teaching and Learning Expectations: Standards of Quality.
  • Conduct regular visits to classrooms to observe and model appropriate strategies and interventions.
  • Observe, provide feedback, and make recommendations regarding application of strategies, classroom modifications, and the selection of adaptive materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate meetings with professionals in all disciplines and families to consult, collaborate, and plan as a team.
  • Assist teachers with strategies for involving and educating families.
  • Gather data related to the performance of identified students through interviews with students, parents, school staff, and contact with social service, mental health agencies, and hospital centers.
  • Generate written professional reports.
  • Participate in CST meetings to determine the need for eligibility, programs, and the development of an Individualized Educational Program (IEP).
  • Adhere to State and Federal regulations and established departmental procedures.
  • Serve as a resource to families, students, and school staff for information, referrals, and program planning.
  • Monitor the progress of pupils within the assigned jurisdiction.
  • Maintain and report accurate statistical data related to productivity and case responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Salary range: BA $61,912 - $86,912 / MA $62,412 - $87,412
  • Term of Employment: 10.5 Months
  • Union: MPTEA
