Role and Responsibilities
- Knowledge of CASEL Framework and ability to assist staff with SEL strategies in the classroom.
- Counsel individual students and groups on issues such as mental health, poverty, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, or childcare.
- Interview students and families to assess their situations, capabilities, and needs, determining appropriate services.
- Serve as a liaison between school, students, families, and external agencies like child guidance clinics, courts, protective services, and healthcare providers to support children facing disabilities, trauma, abuse, or poverty.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and school staff to identify causes of issues like truancy and misbehavior and implement solutions.
- Apply best practice interventions for behavioral issues.
- Participate as a member of MET and IEP teams to develop interventions that promote academic and behavioral success, including IEP goals and care plans.
- Understand Medical Plans of Care, MET / IEP processes, and Section 504 plans.
- Provide counseling to students exhibiting behavioral, academic, or mental/physical impairments, diagnosing issues and coordinating needed services.
- Coordinate with school personnel to support students with disabilities.
- Interpret special education policies, procedures, and guidelines for staff.
- Contribute to the school's MTSS team by providing evaluation, support, and consultation through the SST process.
- Deliver services to students with IEPs.
- Coordinate Peer-to-Peer Program.
- Utilize conflict management skills and collaborate with other service providers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
- Licensed and Certified School Social Worker with SSW 310 Approval.
- Experience working with At-Risk students in various settings preferred.
- Experience with MTSS framework, IEP documentation, evaluation tools, and Section 504 plans preferred.
- Experience conducting Functional Behavior Assessments, data-driven decision making, and developing Positive Behavior Intervention Plans preferred.
- Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
- Early childhood experience is a plus but not required.
Working Schedule and Rate of Pay:
40 weeks per year (aligned with teacher work calendar)
Salary according to the master contract
