Qualifications

General Responsibilities

  1. To provide school social work services to and on behalf of students so that social/emotional and adaptive development can be enhanced.
  2. Conduct clinical assessments, crisis interventions, and/or consultations and make appropriate recommendations for students, staff, and parents within the school setting.
  3. Provide individual and/or group therapy to students.
  4. Provide individual mental health services to a caseload of fee-for-service clients as assigned during the summer season, at an assigned location.
  5. Provide group therapy mental health services to a caseload of fee-for-service clients as assigned during the summer season, at an assigned location.
  6. Complete IM+CANS assessments for fee-for-service clients during the summer season.

Essential Functions

  1. Conduct face-to-face interviews with students in order to complete a Basic Emotional Assessment and provide recommendations in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Agency.
  2. Provide ongoing school social work services to individual students and/or groups.
  3. Works collaboratively with parents to increase participation and use of appropriate available resources.
  4. Consults and collaborates with school personnel in gathering and giving information on students and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior and/or meeting the student’s developmental needs.
  5. Consults and collaborates with school personnel regarding the referral of students for prevention and intervention strategies as well as for the referral of students for testing and evaluation services.
  6. Identify and assess social and emotional difficulties of children that interfere with their attendance, adjustment and achievement in school.
  7. Act as a liaison as needed for any special testing needed for students and to ensure the student’s needs are met.
  8. Maintains student school records, reports, etc. according to the policies of the Agency and respective school for use by school staff members, outside agencies and parents as required by law.
  9. Participate in case consultations, collaborations and reviews with school personnel or with outside professional consultants and development and planning activities of the Counseling Program.
  10. Conducts in-service training for parents, students, teachers and administrators.

Requirements

  1. Master’s Degree in Social Work required. All degrees must come from a regionally accredited educational institution which has U.S. Department of Education approval.
  2. Passage of complete background clearance and fingerprinting.
  3. Licensure in the State of Illinois as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred, but not required.
  4. Type 73 Illinois Certificate as a School Social Worker recommended, but not required.
  5. Training and experience in providing clinical assessments (including crisis interventions) and in providing outpatient or school based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, preferred.
  6. Demonstrated competence in providing culturally-sensitive interventions to individuals from all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.
  7. Interest in mentoring master’s level trainees, networking and providing community outreach services.
  8. A valid driver’s license, reliable means of transportation and proof of liability insurance is required.
