- Detroit Service Learning Academy.
- Redford Service Learning Academy.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of current federal and state special education laws and local guidelines (MARSE).
- This position is responsible for applying specialized knowledge of social worker theories and interventions in order to provide student assessment, recommend IEP services and determine eligibility for special education services. Provide social worker services and assistance to improve the social and psychological function of children and to strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning.
- Work with community groups to develop supportive resources.
- Work with the IEP team: Speech and Language Pathologist, School Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Teachers, Parents, and Administrators to try to alleviate specific problems.
- Consult with parents on effective intervention strategies.
- Consult with classroom teachers to help them better understand and work with particular students or manage particular classes.
- Knowledge of FBA’s, BIP’s, Behavior Contracts, and MDR’s.
- Knowledge of administering the BASC, CARS, GARS, and Conners.
Specialized Education:
- M.S.W. in Social Work.
- Three plus years in delivery of Special Education services providing social work services, facilitating individual or group discussions, and preparing social and family histories.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without close supervision.
- Knowledge of special education requirements in K-9 school setting.
- Ability to form liaison relationships with parents, schools and agencies.
- Strong organizational skills.
Skills & Abilities:
- Gather information regarding student and/or program needs. Assesses and evaluates behavior problems.
- Evaluate students to determine the need for emotional and social development services.
- Conduct social development studies for students referred for special education services.
- Administer standardized behavior scales. Administers follow-up procedures to confirm hypotheses.
- Solicit evaluation of services from various client groups.
- Observe students to assess functioning.
- Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding needs for services.
- Explain the nature and purpose of assessments, its use and limitations, in an understandable manner to parents or other professionals.
- Prepare a written diagnostic report for educational referrals that is comprehensive and objective.
- Provide crisis intervention services as appropriate and as requested.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
- The employee is periodically required to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, and crawl.
- May have to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
