Responsibilities include translating spoken language to sign, supporting classrooms and field trips, maintaining confidentiality, and coordinating with teachers and staff.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is required.
  • One year of instructional interpretation experience in a school setting is preferred.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides educational, social and informational interpreting services for deaf and hearing-impaired students by translating spoken words to sign language and vice versa.
  • Tutors hearing-impaired students using verbal and non-verbal communication methods.
  • Prepares for classes by reviewing subject matter and terminology.
  • Interprets during assemblies, field trips and special events as needed.
  • Uses devices like closed captioning and assistive listening systems to aid understanding.
  • Maintains confidentiality and ethical behavior; collaborates with staff.
