Job summary

Sunset Hills Elementary - Surprise, AZ is seeking a 26/27 SY Interpreter Hearing Impaired to provide sign language interpretation for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. This full-time, benefited position is 0.875 FTE, with a 195-day work calendar.

Responsibilities include translating spoken language to sign, supporting classrooms and field trips, maintaining confidentiality, and coordinating with teachers and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is required.
• One year of instructional interpretation experience in a school setting is preferred.
• Valid CPR/First Aid certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides educational, social and informational interpreting services for deaf and hearing-impaired students by translating spoken words to sign language and vice versa.
• Tutors hearing-impaired students using verbal and non-verbal communication methods.
• Prepares for classes by reviewing subject matter and terminology.
• Interprets during assemblies, field trips and special events as needed.
• Uses devices like closed captioning and assistive listening systems to aid understanding.
• Maintains confidentiality and ethical behavior; collaborates with staff.
