Job summary

Chelsea Public Schools seeks a Security Monitor to safeguard students and staff. You will screen visitors, patrol indoor and outdoor areas, monitor cameras, and respond to incidents under direction of administrators.

The role requires a High School Diploma and bilingual English/Spanish, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse communities. Hours are Monday–Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; salary is $20.70 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Bilingual English/Spanish required.
• Ability to move about the building and perimeter.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
• Experience working in a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic setting.
• Ability to work with students, teachers and the public.
• Good personal characteristics including self-discipline, maturity, self-confidence, professionalism, dedication, responsiveness to supervision.

Responsibilities

• Screen and validate all visitors, contractors, and guests using the school’s sign-in systems to ensure unauthorized individuals do not enter the building or grounds.
• Patrol assigned indoor and outdoor areas including hallways, stairwells, cafeterias, restrooms, and parking lots to maintain visibility and security.
• Monitor security cameras and electronic access points to proactively spot safety risks.
• Operate two-way radios, phones, and other digital tools to coordinate with school staff.
• De-escalate student conflicts using positive behavior strategies to maintain a calm learning environment.
• Respond immediately to emergencies, drill procedures, and crises under the direction of the Principal(s) and emergency providers.
• Report all security violations and safety hazards to administrators and authorities as needed.
• File detailed incident reports regarding behavioral issues or security breaches in a timely manner.
• Model professional conduct, maintain a neat appearance, and protect student privacy.
• Treat all students fairly and build positive relationships within the school community.
