SUMMARY:

The School Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors while maintaining a professional presence on school grounds. This role involves patrolling school premises, monitoring visitor activity, and assisting during arrival and dismissal times. Officers are expected to uphold high professional and appearance standards while minimizing personal distractions during duty hours.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in escalated situations but do not manage student behaviors directly.
• Conduct a perimeter check of the property, inspecting for any suspicious activity, vandalism, or security concerns.
• Monitor the arrival process, ensuring student and parent safety.
• Perform hourly visible perimeter checks, including parking lots and building exteriors.
• Monitor visitor traffic and manage parking lot activities.
• Remain vigilant for suspicious activity or unauthorized individuals.
• Respond promptly to school calls for assistance.
• Assist with student dismissal, ensuring a safe and orderly process.
• Assists school with executing, documenting, and debriefing emergency drills.
• Helps to ensure that assigned schools are compliant with state, charter authorizer, and NHA safety requirements.
• Additional duties as assigned.
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Strong observational and communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
• Physically capable of conducting foot patrols and standing for extended periods.
• Must pass a background check and meet school security clearance requirements.
• CPR, First Aid, or security-related certifications preferred.
• Familiarity with school environments and safety protocols preferred.
