Must have a minimum of five (5) years full-time experience as a patrol officer and a minimum of two (2) additional years full-time experience as a School Resource Officer for a full-service law enforcement agency to be considered for this position.

Commerce City, a dynamic and diverse community with a growing future, places great emphasis on providing a safe environment to residents and members of the industrial and business sector and enthusiastically acknowledges the essential contribution and dedication of the sworn staff of the Commerce City Police Department.

The Commerce City Police Department fosters and actively engages in community-based policing initiatives that promote a standard of excellence in providing police services in Commerce City and the region. General Statement of Position

The Commerce City Police Department's Youth Services Unit, in collaboration with community partnerships, strives to maintain an alliance between youth, families, the community, and the Police Department, utilizing teamwork, mentoring, and accountability as tools to assist our youth in becoming mature and responsible citizens. As School Resource Officers, the Youth Services Unit serves the Adams County Youth Initiative, Adams 14 School District, Brighton 27J School District, several charter school entities, and the Commerce City Parks, Recreation, and Golf Department. In addition to our community partnerships, the Youth Services Unit manages the Commerce City Police Explorer program, the Commerce City Youth Police Camp, and several other youth-based programs. The Commerce City Police Department provides School Resource Officer services to two school districts--Adams 14 and Brighton 27J--with 19 schools that serve about 14,000 students. The Youth Services Unit consists of seven School Resource Officers and one Sergeant who reports to the Special Operations Community Services Commander.

Selected candidates will be offered a five (5) year assignment, with possible opportunities for extensions up to an additional five years based on the needs of the Department as a School Resource Officer. A selected candidate's experience may be considered toward a reduction in new hire training time. Selected candidates are expected to complete the Department's shortened In-house and Field Training programs for newly hired police officers.

At the discretion of the Chief of Police, starting pay may be commensurate with the applicant’s years of service with their current agency. For example: if an applicant has five (5) years of service with their current agency, the applicant may be eligible to start at step E; currently $115,798 annually.
