Qualified candidates will be dedicated to the service of others, will have experience or an understanding of community-based policing, can communicate and problem solve effectively, and can work collaboratively in a team environment.

General Statement of Position

The Commerce City Police Department's Youth Services Unit, in collaboration with community partnerships, maintains an alliance between youth, families, the community, and the Police Department, using teamwork, mentoring, and accountability to help youth become mature and responsible citizens. As School Resource Officers, the Youth Services Unit serves the Adams County Youth Initiative, Adams 14 School District, Brighton 27J School District, several charter school entities, and the Commerce City Parks, Recreation, and Golf Department. The Unit also manages the Commerce City Police Explorer program, the Commerce City Youth Police Camp, and other youth-based programs. The Department provides School Resource Officer services to two school districts—Adams 14 and Brighton 27J—with 19 schools serving about 14,000 students. The Youth Services Unit consists of seven School Resource Officers and one Sergeant who reports to the Special Operations Community Services Commander.

Selected candidates will be offered a five (5) year assignment, with possible extensions up to an additional five years based on the Department's needs. A selected candidate's experience may be considered toward a reduction in new hire training time. Selected candidates are expected to complete the Department's shortened In-house and Field Training programs for newly hired police officers.

At the discretion of the Chief of Police, starting pay may be commensurate with the applicant’s years of service with their current agency.
