Hiawatha CUSD #426 has an opening for a full-time school psychologist for the 2026-2027 school year. This position would provide support to the unit school district in the areas of academic/behavior interventions, assessment, and programming. IL PEL with School Psychologist endorsement in Illinois is a must. While we prefer full-time, we encourage interested part-time applicants to also apply.

REPORTS TO

Director of Student Services

JOB GOAL

To support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. To apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. To provide student screening for diverse students' needs, offer counseling and help teachers and families create Independent Education Plans (IEPs).

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engage in ongoing communication and consultation with administration, teachers, and parents.
  • Identify systemic patterns of student need and work with district personnel to identify appropriate, evidence‑based intervention strategies.
  • Provide oversight of progress monitoring and integration of all data in team decision making.
  • Demonstrate (and train) progress monitoring strategies as part of the individual student intervention plan, and assist staff in interpreting data as part of the ongoing decision making process.
  • Observe students in the instructional environment in order to help identify appropriate intervention strategies, to identify barriers to intervention, and to collect response to intervention data.
  • Cooperate in selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Be able to effectively interpret, summarize and communicate evaluation findings about students.
  • Be knowledgeable about a wide variety of formal and informal assessment techniques to evaluate the educational functioning of students, including individual psychological instruments of intelligence, achievement, learning processes, behavioral, and social‑emotional functioning necessary to identify the special needs of children.
  • Possess the ability to mediate conflictual situations.
  • Have a genuine concern for people and a record that clearly demonstrates patterns of strength, trust, open communication and a high degree of empathy in all personal situations.
  • Maintain professional conduct, standards and ethics.
  • Be knowledgeable about instructional content and methodology.
  • Possess knowledge and experience utilizing a Response to Intervention framework to support students across all tiers, including benchmarking, problem solving, intervention selection, and progress monitoring.
  • Be knowledgeable about behavior management strategies, functional behavior assessments, and behavior intervention planning.
  • Be knowledgeable about normal growth and development of students and have an understanding of how this is impacted by current socio‑economic trends.
  • Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and professional demeanor when dealing with school personnel and the public as a school leader.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Nine month school year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board according to individual or HCTA Contract. Competitive Salary
