POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services / Building Principal

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide a full range of school psychological and psycho‑educational services to support the academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional competence of students ages 3‑18 across one or more sites within the Whitefish School District. Whitefish Public Schools seeks educators with a track record of raising student achievement to join a team dedicated to providing a deeper learning instructional program, utilizing data to drive daily practice, and supporting an inclusive school culture. It is the expectation of the District that each staff member will put the safety, health, and well‑being of students at the forefront of all actions, job responsibilities, and decisions and perform all duties in alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: M.A., M.S., Ed.S., or Ph.D. in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
• Licensure/Certification: Valid Class 6 Specialist Certificate with a School Psychologist endorsement from the Montana Office of Public Instruction (or immediate eligibility for certification).
• Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to write reports and business correspondence; ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in writing and orally to students, staff, parents, and the general public.
• Professional Relations: Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and the broader community.
• Operational Capacity: Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities, interpret oral/written instructions, and maintain student confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced training and/or verified field experience working within established Response to Intervention (RTI) and MTSS frameworks.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to)

• Assessment, Evaluation, & Case Management
  • Administer, score, and analyze a variety of psycho‑educational evaluations and supplemental assessments relevant to individual student needs.
  • Identify and assess the learning, development, adjustment, functional capabilities, and environmental factors affecting student performance.
  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Conduct Threat Assessments as needed to ensure campus safety.
  • Actively assist and participate in Child Find testing and screening activities.
• Consultation, Collaboration, & Team Participation
  • Participate in the Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) processes, utilizing and communicating Curriculum‑Based Measurement (CBM) data and progress monitoring tools.
  • Participate in multi‑disciplinary referral and Special Education meetings to help determine appropriate student placement and contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Participate in Student Assistance Teams to collaborate on targeted pre‑referral interventions.
  • Consult with school staff, administration, and parents regarding learning styles, classroom management, student behavior modifications, and school‑wide needs to enhance student achievement.
  • Provide confidential information to teachers or principals when it is deemed to be in the student’s best educational and personal interests.
• Intervention & Student/Parent Support
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individual, group, or system‑level interventions addressing academic, social‑emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
  • As directed by the Student Services Director, and in concert with School Counselors, provide short‑term individual and group counseling services for students.
  • As directed by the Student Services Director, and in concert with School Counselors, counsel parents regarding effective strategies to manage their child’s specific behavioral, emotional, and learning needs, and make recommendations to outside counseling resources when necessary.
  • Participate in vocational and transitional planning for special education students.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and training of building‑wide programs that support student behavioral and academic success.
• Data Systems, Professional Growth, & Administration
  • Document and maintain rigorous records of parent contact, counseling sessions, and classroom interventions.
  • Support the design and implementation of data collection systems to facilitate data‑based decision‑making.
  • Adhere to and maintain knowledge of state and federal rules, regulations, district policies, and professional ethics/standards of school psychology (including student confidentiality).
  • Engage in continuous professional development, peer collaboration, research application, and staff development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties and functions as required, given, or assigned by the Director of Student Services or Building Principal.

EQUIPMENT USED A variety of electronic and technology devices, copier, telephone/voice mail, fax machine, dictation equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside in what can be a stressful environment. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well‑being of students. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, depending upon the task at hand.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand; travel from building to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.

MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications.
