Job description

Winchester Public Schools is seeking a School Psychologist

Location: District-wide

Position Purpose

The school psychologist is a resource person whose expertise lies in learning and development theory as well as in intellectual, behavioral and social/emotional assessment. Assuming the role of consultant to administrators, teachers, parents, and/or students, the school psychologist facilitates the maximum intellectual, social and emotional growth of each pupil in the schools.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Complies with all published and disseminated rules, regulations and policies of the Board of Education.
  • Has an understanding of the Connecticut Common Core of Teaching, the Connecticut Common Core of Learning and the Connecticut Framework documents and their role in facilitating improved student learning.
  • Complies with all published and disseminated rules, regulations and policies of the Federal and State Department of Education as they apply to Special Education.
  • Evaluation: assumes responsibility for individual psychoeducational assessments as recommended and delineated by the Planning and Placement Team.
  • Assists administrators in group testing when appropriate.
  • Interprets test results to pupils, parents and staff, emphasizing applicability of results to the learning situation; shares results with outside agencies, as authorized.
  • Implementation: provides assistance and expertise to the Planning and Placement Teams in initiating new programs or in modifying those in existence.
  • Acts as a child advocate to help create an atmosphere where individual needs are recognized and strengths respected.
  • Facilitates in transitioning students into and out of special education programs.
  • Maintains communication between the home, school, and outside agencies,
  • Serves as liaison within a school building.
  • Performs additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification.

Working Conditions
  • Per Contract with the WEA
  • Reports to: Director of Special Services and Assistant Director
  • Work Year: by contract
  • Pay Ranges for 2026-2027 School Year $44,456.00 - $ 100,709.00
Requirements
  • Must pass federal and local background checks
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must complete all pre-employment requirements before the start date.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
