Job summary

Qualifications

About MCSCS

Middlesex County STEM Charter School (MCSCS) is a public school serving grades Kindergarten through 8th grades and open to all students who reside in the City of Perth Amboy. The school is free to all students and families and is a replication of the Central Jersey College Prep Charter School, a recipient of the 2016 Blue-Ribbon Award and other prestigious awards.

The mission of the Middlesex County STEM Charter School is to provide rigorous science, technology, engineering, and math curricula in a diverse and nurturing environment to spark students' interest at an early age in STEM careers. Our mission is delivered through a meticulously engineered educational ecosystem, where we intentionally nurture our students' intellectual, social, and emotional growth, as set forth in our comprehensive vision statement.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Participate in the evaluation, classification and placement of all pupils with special needs.
  • Administer, score and evaluate standard psychological tests for the purpose of assessing the intellectual, educational, emotional, social and behavioral characteristics of those students referred.
  • Interpret the results of psychological testing and assists in the development and coordination of an appropriate individualized education plan for each pupil requiring special education and/or related services and participates in the ongoing evaluation of the academic progress and educational placement of classified pupils.
  • Serve as a case manager as assigned and maintain appropriate case records.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of in-service programs and parent seminars.
  • Observe pupils in classrooms and other school settings.
  • Serve as a consultant to parents, school personnel and community groups on child development and mental health topics.
  • Perform all duties required as a member of the child study team by administrative code, state, and federal laws and board policy
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education and other professional growth activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Education Officer or Director of Special Education.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with students, families, staff, and leadership
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal policies and ethical standards
  • Maintain strong organizational and documentation practices
  • Demonstrate professionalism that supports a positive school culture
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of special education law and evaluation procedures
  • Competency with psychological testing and report writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based environment
Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law, administrative code and provisions of the board's policy on the evaluation of certified staff

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Valid NJ Educational Services Certificate or School Psychologist Endorsement;
  • NJ Criminal History;
  • Work authorization in the U.S.;
  • Tuberculosis Test;
  • Experience is a plus.
