Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychological evaluations to assess students' functioning.
  • Provide consultation to staff and parents on student support techniques.
  • Monitor student progress related to IEP goals.
  • Provide consultation to staff and parents on strategies to support students with emotional/adjustment needs.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine eligibility and appropriate programs.
  • Prepare IEPs for eligible students.
  • Monitor progress related to academics, behavior and IEP goals.
  • Serve as liaison among teachers, paraprofessionals and service providers.
  • Maintain confidential records for referred students.
  • Act as case manager for classified students.
  • Participate on Intervention and Referral Services Team.
  • Serve on crisis management team and make referrals.
  • Provide school-based counseling consultation to students, parents, teachers and staff.
  • Submit timely reports and data to the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Deliver counseling services documented in IEPs.

Reports To

Building Principal, Director of Student Support Services

Job Goal

Serve as a member of the basic Child Study Team under the Department of Student Support Services. Responsibilities include evaluation, assessment, planning, follow-up, consultation and counseling. All duties are conducted in accordance with NJ Administrative Code Title 6A Chapter 14.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Complete all functions required of a Child Study Team member.
  • Conduct psychological evaluation to assess the student’s cognitive, behavioral, social‑emotional and adaptive functioning.
  • Analyze and synthesize information from the evaluation to determine cognitive level and emotional competency.
  • Provide consultation to staff and parents on techniques and activities for teachers to support students with emotional/adjustment problems.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine student eligibility and appropriate programs and services.
  • Complete Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for eligible students.
  • Monitor student progress related to classroom performance, grades, behavior and IEP goals.
  • Act as liaison among classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
  • Maintain confidential records for all referred students.
  • Serve as case manager for all classified students.
  • Participate on the school's Intervention and Referral Services Team, if requested.
  • Serve on the crisis management team and make referrals as necessary.
  • Provide school‑based counseling consultation to students, parents, teachers and staff.
  • Provide thorough and timely reports, data and related information to the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Deliver school‑based counseling services to students as documented in IEPs.
Terms of Employment

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

Annual Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on non‑certificated staff evaluation.

  • Use strength to lift items as needed.
  • Sit, stand and walk for required periods.
  • Speak and hear.
  • Use vision (close, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus).
  • Communicate effectively in English (ASL or Braille may also be acceptable).
  • Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools, computers and controls.
Environmental Demands
  • Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
  • Occasional exposure to varied weather conditions.
  • Exposure to heated/air‑conditioned and ventilated facilities.
  • Exposure to a building where cleaning and instructional chemicals are used.
  • Workplace is usually moderately quiet, may become noisy at times.
