Job summary

SPEED S.E.J.A. District 802 in Illinois is seeking a School Psychologist to support students in grades K-12 by promoting resilience and providing strategies to overcome mental health challenges.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, you will conduct assessments, offer individual or group therapy, assist with exceptional student placement, and collaborate with families and school staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Master’s Degree in Psychology.
• Ph.D. in Psychology preferred.
• State Certification as School Psychologist.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychological assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students to maximize learning and address psychological issues.
• Provide individual, group, or facilitative therapy for students whose problems would benefit from behavior modification or differentiated instruction.
• Assist with the identification and placement of all types of exceptional students.
• Coordinate with administrators and teaching staff to ascertain individual students’ abilities and needs, including those with special needs.
• Attend PPT meetings as needed for students with special needs.
• Serve as a resource and consultant on mental health and child psychology, and conduct in‑service programs as requested.
• Assist with the school district’s dropout prevention efforts.
• Serve as a ready resource to students to provide counseling that leads to increased personal growth, self‑understanding, and maturity.
• Continuously acquire professional knowledge and stay current through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, research, and professional relationships.
• Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping and provide student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
• Encourage parental involvement in students’ education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
• Select and requisition appropriate books, aids, and other supplies and equipment, and maintain inventory records.

• Coordinate with administrators and teaching staff to ascertain individual students’ abilities and needs, including those with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with psychological services.

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
