Job Summary

This position creates a welcoming school environment for all families; provides Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) information and resources to families; conducts outreach through a variety of communications to empower families to be actively engaged in their students’ education; builds relationships with and among families, staff, and community members; promotes understanding of families’ cultural diversity; provides information about and connects families to community resources; and works collaboratively with school administration to address family issues and concerns at the school.

Essential Responsibilities - specific to this job
  • Provides the connection between families, community, and school staff to support student achievement and facilitate communications.
  • Provides information about PWCS and the school.
  • Directs families to appropriate PWCS and community resources for information and resolution of concerns.
  • Identifies best practices and assists in the development strategies to facilitate school/community collaboration.
  • Develops and coordinates programs to engage families and the community in students’ education and school programs.
  • Plans, schedules, organizes, and participates in delivering a variety of school/community outreach programs, including one-on-one consultations, small meetings, presentations, and workshops for families and staff members.
  • Participates in community and civic activities to maintain visibility and credibility in the community.
  • Keeps records and responds to in-person, phone, and e-mail inquiries.
  • Attends required professional development training sessions that support the function of their role.
  • Advocates for families as appropriate.
  • Works collaboratively with school administration to coordinate communications and outreach materials for families, including flyer distribution, school status messaging, and personal outreach to share important school and event information ensuring translation to home languages.
  • Serves as a member of the school’s Advisory Council.
  • Recruits parents/guardians to serve on the school’s Advisory Council.
  • Provides interpreting services as needed within a school for parent/teacher conferences, meetings, and other school events.
  • Assists staff and leadership in ensuring multilingual communication is included at school events.

  • Ability to navigate technology tools to support family and student learning.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with families, school staff members, and community members from diverse socioeconomic groups.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Familiarity with the special needs of children and diverse issues of parenting.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Fluency in a second language may be required based on school needs.
  • Ability to work flexible and evening hours for school events.
