Job summary

Greene County Public Schools is seeking a School Nutrition Worker for the 2026-2027 school year in Stanardsville, VA. Under close supervision, you prepare and serve meals and help keep the kitchen and equipment clean.

This full-time position offers 7 hours per day, 180 days per year, with pay range $18,654 to $25,142 annually, based on prior food service experience. Applicants must read/write English and follow safety rules; a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job Description
Primary Function

The employee, under close supervision, performs routine duties to include the preparation and serving of food and the cleaning of kitchen equipment and facility.

Responsibilities
  • Follows procedures in food preparation, use and care of equipment, and personal habits to assure that sanitation standards are met as required by the School Nutrition Services Office and Virginia Department of Health.
  • Follows standards of safety in preparing, storing and serving food as required by the School Nutrition Services Office and Virginia Department of Health.
  • Maintains required forms and records as assigned by the manager.
  • Accepts payment for food, using computerized register and payment system or other means as directed by cafeteria manager.
  • Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
  • Maintains proper boundaries with students at all times, assuring respect for the ethical and legal duties in the staff-student relationship and the essential duty to serve as a role model.
  • Provides a good role model in appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior for the students served.
  • Attends job related training classes and workshops, including mandatory classes required under federal regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
  • Takes direction from superiors, communicates efficiently and effectively, and exhibits a team player attitude.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Ability to complete written forms and records. High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use equipment; see and read printed material with or without vision aids; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to walk and to reach overhead. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.
